Tumbleweeds Blog

I had such a good weekend! Sam was home, and Morgan, Sams little brother and we played such fun games. We played football and they jumped on the trampoline. I tried to get up there but human mummy said that was a bad place for dogs because they could get hurt up there. So I jumped up and down on the ground while they jumped up and down on the trampoline and giggled and laughed. It’s such good fun to hear them laugh. When I laugh it sounds just the same as when I shout and sometimes humans get very annoyed about it, if they would just look they would see I’m laughing, my tail wags when I’m laughing, it doesn’t when I’m angry.

I like to play football with the boys. I’m so much faster than they are and they have to try real hard to catch up and get the ball from me. Sometimes they cheat by shouting my name is a loud and firm way “Tumbleweed!” and I stop so they can get the ball. I don’t mind because we just start the game again and I always get the ball from them.

Human mummy likes it when we all play like this because we all sleep so very well.

The human mummy took me to the vet yesterday. I don’t like going there. The vet lady is very nice, she’s kind and always has a cuddle for me, but where she lives smells of all sorts of things and there are loads of other animals shouting that they don’t like the smells.

Biff, a German Shepherd, said he had the way to get rid of that nasty smell, so he pee’d on the door post. His mummy was not happy at all, but she did go a lovely colour of red.

The vet jagged my neck and told human mummy that she was putting a chip inside so that if I get lost they can find me again. I like chips, but I’d much rather eat them than get them put into my skin like that. It didn’t hurt. Human Mummy said I was a very good girl and bought me a doggy treat

Back to school

Sam went to a place called school today. I wasn’t allowed to go because it’s not a place for dogs. Where is a place for dogs then?

My humans go to places called shops, but I’m not allowed in. They took me there one day and left me tied up outside while they went in. I shouted, and shouted and shouted some more for them to come and get me. It just seemed like they were gone forever! I was sure they weren’t coming back. Jack, who was also tied up outside the shop, said not to worry, they go in there and come out after a while, but they always come back for you. It was the scariest time ever in my life.

Sam heard me shouting for him and he did come back after a little while and he sat beside me until the human mummy came outside. I love Sam, he always looks after me and we play together all the time. Sometimes he’ll throw a ball for me to go find and bring back to him. I love to tease him with the ball. I’ll come back to him with it in my mouth and run straight to him, then past him so he’ll chase me.

It was a very, very long day without Sam. I sat at the gate and waited and waited. Pesky said I should get on with other things, like chasing bumble bees because it would make time go faster and before I knew it he’d be home, but I just couldn’t find the energy to chase anything. What if this school place was a place where they stayed forever? Oh, I’d be so sad then. I spent the day getting sadder and sadder until I thought I would just fade away.

He came back! Oh, how happy I was. I didn’t know I could jump that high! I jumped and jumped for joy! And he was so happy to see me. We cuddled and rolled around the floor together until human mummy shouted at us because Sam’s school clothes were getting dirty.

Hello

You’d think that a dogs life is rather boring, wouldn’t you? People seem to think all we ever do is eat, sleep and pooh. That’ just not fair. My day is filled with adventure.

The sun was shining yesterday. Oh, it was so hot! I’m not complaining. My humans think I should stay out of the sun because of my thick coat. That’s why the called me Tumbleweed, because my thick coat sheds and leaves clumps all over the house. Whenever they find my little clumps of hair they chase me all over the house with a brush! Oh I love a good chase!

I’m getting side tracked. That happens a lot when you’re a dog. You forget where you were. Oh yes, I was telling you about the fun I had yesterday in the sunshine.

Our garden is a wonderful place. It’s full of plants and has a lovely little pond with a fountain in it. Everything you could hope for to attract play mates like butterflies and bees.

Today I was playing with Snowdrop. Snowdrop is a beautiful white butterfly. Why do they call them butterflies? She doesn’t even like butter! Anyway, we were dancing around the garden, in and out of the lavender when she scooped way up high. I jumped after her and landed, right in the middle of the fountain! I was soaked through! I ran back to my mother, Pesky, to show her what had happened and she said I should shake all that water off my coat before I caught a chill. I’ve never seen a chill before, so I wouldn’t really be chasing one would I? Honestly, my mother can be silly sometimes, but she is my mum, so I did what she said. I shook my body so hard all the water droplets darted from my coat just as my human Mummy walked by with her clean washing! Oh she was upset. I like it when she gets upset, she chases me around the garden, it’s such good fun.
